Movies & TV series & Books

Hey guys! In this post I recommend you some stuff I recently enjoyed watching or reading. Be aware that I’m the romance-comedy-mysterious-drama-person ^^

Recently I watched a movie called ”A Walk to Remember“. The movie is set and was created in the late 90s. The plot is like this: In high school one of the “cool” boys falls in love with a nerdy weird girl, albeit not on purpose. It’s like a typical teeny romance movie which I normally dislike. I’m more the romance-comedy-mysterious-drama person. However the best part of the movie is when the couple is dancing to the song called “Dancing in the Moonlight”. It’s a really catchy song, but I couldn’t remember the whole melody so I was trying to find it on YouTube. The problem was that I couldn’t open a single video, because the infamous restriction message “this video is not available in your country” (but now I have my ways to get through haha) didn’t let me, which I think is actually pretty ridiculous, because shouldn’t internet/YouTube be open for everyone?. After that I texted a friend wondering if she could send me the song. She sent me the original version and a remake, they were both great and I couldn’t resist but to listen to it all day. The original version gave me a kind of nostalgic feeling which I do like. However after listening to it so many times I couldn’t take it anymore and turned it off.
I realized that even when you watch bad movies you can actually benefit from them, for example, by getting to know a great song just like I did. Despite the fact that movies are giving joy to viewers another benefit you can get is an inspirational fabulous fashion-style or, for example, meaningful quotes. One of my favourite quotes I remember from a movie is “You like living short stories, but I’m kinda ready for the novel…you know?” (the movie is: happythankyoumoreplease)
Basically, watching movies or series in a foreign language can give you a great insight into a foreign lifestyle and culture, but of course it’s not done by watching only one movie though. After watching several different movies or series in their original language the major benefit you can get is the improvement of your language skills. Isn’t it convenient to improve your knowledge of a foreign language and lifestyle?
Apparently movies are just like teachers or role models. They inspire you, teach you, but they can also influence you in a negative way. For example I once watched some movies in which people were wasting food by throwing fresh food away or were throwing food at each other. I think bad manners like that are really bad for viewers. Especially children can be easily influenced by such bad actions. In contrast, some series are using their influence to be good role models for viewers. For example the protagonists of some series (actually it’s Desperate Housewives) weren’t just using regular grocery bags from a supermarket; instead of plastic bags they used a green grocery bag with a big recycle sign on it. For the future this is a good step to show eco-friendliness in the media ..so viewers are taking it for granted. You can also regard the message of a movie as a wise old lady who is trying to teach us what matters in life and what actually is the right moral thing to do. It can be shown through bad or good experiences of the protagonists. But of course there are a lot of dumb movies out there which are a waste of our energy. Still, our creativity can be sparked by the imagination of how the movie could have been done better.
After all, what I like the most is that when I have finished watching a really good movie and then go to sleep it’ll hunt me all night. Yes! And it isn’t scary at all…When you lie in bed you reconsider the message of the movie or simply imagine great scenes again. ~ And don’t be afraid of trying out movies you don’t know - you’ll definitely benefit either way.

Books:
I actually recommend every book written by Cecelia Ahern. Her books are romantic, sometimes funny and it contains a bit of fantasy. However my favourite is “Where Rainbows End” (Fuer immer vielleicht).
“An enchanting novel about two childhood friends whom fate and destiny can't help toying with! From naughty children to rebellious teenagers, Rosie and Alex have stuck by each other through thick and thin. But just as they're discovering the joys of teenage nights on the town and dating disasters, they're separated. Alex's family moves from Dublin to America -- and Alex goes with them. For good. Rosie's lost without her best friend. But on the eve of her departure to join Alex in Boston, Rosie gets news that will change her life forever -- and keep her at home in Ireland. Their magical connection sees them through the ups and downs of each other's lives but neither of them knows whether their friendship can really survive the years and miles -- as well as new relationships. And at the back of Rosie's mind is whether they were meant to be more than just good friends all along. Misunderstandings, circumstances and sheer bad luck have kept them out of each others' arms, but when presented with the ultimate opportunity, will they gamble everything -- including their friendship -- for true love? Destiny, Alex and Rosie discover, is a funny thing and fate isn't quite done with them yet!” source
